Terrace Island: food, drinks and activities
From April to September, the Terrace Island with 300 seats is open daily for coffee, lunch, drinks or festival food. The food trucks are also open on weekends. There is often something fun on the agenda: sports or children's activities, shows, performances, festivals and concerts.
Tasty, responsible and local
The chefs use local products as much as possible and you won't find much meat on the menu. And the meat on the menu is organic.
In short, Fort aan de Klop is a unique place in Utrecht, where you can leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind in no time. A piece of nature in the city, where pot-bellied pigs Waldo and Douwe murmur a cheerful welcome.
A piece of history
Fort aan de Klop was built around 1820 as simple earthen work. The fortress, the canal and the hamlet owe their name to the inn 'De Clophaemer'. The fort secured the Vechtdijk, the lock, the Klopvaart and the Klopdijk. The bombproof guard house was completed in 1851. In 1880 Werk Maarsseveen took over the defense of the area. Fort aan de Klop served as a group depot and storage and supply post for the other forts. Over the years, more and more sheds were added to the site, including a special sheet-iron shed. Since 1882, the fortress guard's house has been standing next to the access bridge. Part of the original ground cover is still in place at the 1940 group shelters.
