The unique Fort Werk IV lies hidden in one of Bussum’s central residential areas. In around 1870, a line of five forts was built 2.5 kilometres in front of Naarden-Vesting as part of the New Dutch Waterline. Fort Werk IV, which is situated at the Bussumer Eng’s highest point, is the last one of these five still standing. It has a dry moat that includes a wall with embrasures as a physical obstacle.
