This national monument, located at Vlooswijkseweg 2 in Leusden, is probably the oldest tower in the Netherlands. In 697 a church was built here, first in wood and later in stone. For a long time the church has been the only church in the area. During the Reformation around 1580, the church became a Protestant church. The church was used less and less and fell into disrepair due to poverty and iconoclasm. Unfortunately restoration was no longer possible. In 1826 it was decided to demolish the church. However, the tower remained standing. The stones from the demolished church were reused to build the Village Church on the Arnhemseweg in Leusden.
The tower, with bell from 1672, became the property of the municipality and has remained so to this day. The tower has been a national monument since 1971. On special occasions it is possible to climb the tower and enjoy the view.
