Guided tour at Fort Honswijk
This large fort with its imposing bombproof gun tower was constructed from 1841-1847 as part of the New Dutch Waterline. Together with Fort Everdingen on the other side of the Lek, the fort hermetically sealed off the high-lying passage (access) of the Lek dikes and flood plains. The fort was purchased in October 2016 by the municipality of Houten. It intends to develop Fort Honswijk organically via the “guest” concept over the next 5 years. In the immediate vicinity of the fort are a number of other interesting sections of the Water Line, such as the Gedekte Gemeenschapsweg (Covered Community Road) (1874-1879), Het Werk aan de Korte Uitweg (1876-1879) and the double trench position Werk aan de Groeneweg (1914-1918/1940). Enjoy a unique tour of this beautiful fort every Sunday at 2 p.m.
